This waxing week I felt a fervent energy of creation pushing me towards preparing and submitting an application. The occasion is the annual Portland Open Studios event in which artists all over the city open their studios to the public to witness their process. My mother and I toured a couple studios last October when the event was happening. The three studios we visited were all older, established artists, so I hadn’t considered applying until I saw on the event website that they offer a scholarship to younger emerging artists… it seemed worth a shot! By some mysterious force guiding me, I managed to pull together an application just in time (literally down to the minute!).
What intrigued me about the process of compiling the application was the archived art that I sifted through to find a few decent pieces to submit. Following are a few of the fun things I drummed up.
I felt a bit nostalgic and excited for the growth that has taken place looking at evidence of the energy that was flowing through me two and a half years ago when I created these images. It was also a boost of confidence that I have a couple of years of decent work under my belt preparing me to enter into the larger stream of artland.
Memories of feeling alive while painting landscapes is encouraging that my current studio will support this creative life force yearning to spring forth onto the canvas of TLC Farm.
The magic and mystery that was alive during my time with GOSSIP lives on in a new form. While I don’t actively engage with that meme any longer, the sentiment is evolving and clearly expressing itself through current projects and connections. Perhaps it will surface again in my creative sorcery. Blessed be the spirit that weaves through all of creation!
Thanks for taking a jaunt down memory lane with me. Next time we journey this direction, I’ll go try to find work from WAY back 🙂
